INDIANA — A woman was arrested for driving under the influence after her dog bit a police officer during a traffic stop Saturday, according to authorities.
The Madisonville Police Department said officers observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on North Kentucky Avenue and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Kentucky and Noel Avenue.
Police identified the driver as Debra Cates, who told officers she had forgotten the road was a one-way street.
Authorities said Cates appeared to be under the influence and was unable to maintain a clear train of thought while speaking with officers.
During the stop, police said Cates’ dog jumped out of the back window of the vehicle and bit an officer on the right arm, causing a significant injury. The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Cates later failed a sobriety test and was arrested. She was transported to the Hopkins County Detention Center.
She faces charges including operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, careless driving and harboring a vicious animal.
Officials said Cates was later released from jail on bond.
The incident remains under investigation.
