INDIANA — A Shelbyville woman has been arrested on child neglect charges after police say her 22-month-old child was found dead in a driveway late Wednesday night.
According to the Shelbyville Police Department, officers responded around 10:45 p.m. to the 900 block of Hale Road following a report of an unresponsive child. The area is a housing development off Miller Avenue near the Big Blue River.
Police said they arrived to find 22-year-old Sophie Igou outside with her child, who was lying in the driveway. Officers attempted first aid but determined the child was already deceased.
Detectives were called to the scene, and Igou was arrested for neglect of a dependent causing death. An autopsy has been requested to determine the child’s cause of death, though police have not said when it will be completed.
Formal charges have not yet been filed. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Fred McConnaughey or Detective Mark Newman at 317-392-5106.
