FLORIDA — A man has been detained after a shooting in downtown Tampa Monday morning left another man critically injured, according to the Tampa Police Department.
Officers responded to the intersection of East Kennedy Boulevard and North Meridian Avenue following reports of a shooting.
Police said a man in his mid-50s was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Authorities said the suspected shooter, also a man in his mid-50s, was quickly detained at the scene, and a firearm was recovered.
Investigators believe the shooting was not random and that the two men knew each other. Early evidence suggests the incident may have stemmed from an altercation between the men that occurred on Friday.
Westbound traffic along Kennedy Boulevard was diverted as police conducted their investigation. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.
The investigation remains ongoing.
