
VIRGINIA — A teenage driver is facing multiple charges after a crash early Monday morning on Interstate 64 in Hampton left an infant seriously injured, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities said the crash occurred just after 2 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-64. A silver sedan driven by a juvenile female went off the right side of the interstate and struck a guardrail before crossing over and hitting the jersey wall on the left side.
The teen driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Police said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
An infant who was also inside the vehicle suffered serious injuries. Investigators said the child was not properly restrained.
State police said the driver faces several charges, including driving under the influence, driving without a license and a child restraint violation. An additional charge is pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
