INDIANA — An Indianapolis driver is in critical condition after fleeing a traffic stop and crashing on the city’s west side early Monday morning.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers attempted to pull over a vehicle around 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 16. The driver refused to stop, leading to a short pursuit.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed on a ramp from northbound Interstate 465 to westbound Interstate 74 near Crawfordsville Road. Authorities said the vehicle rolled over and caught fire after the crash. Police at the scene extinguished the flames.
The driver was transported to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
The exit ramp from northbound I-465 to westbound I-74, as well as the entrance ramp from Crawfordsville Road to westbound I-74, were closed for several hours while investigators worked at the scene. The ramps reopened shortly after 7 a.m.
The incident remains under investigation.
