One person injured following wrong-way crash in Ohio

OHIO — A 36-year-old woman was hospitalized overnight after driving the wrong way on U.S. Route 30 and colliding with a semi, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the incident began when the Delphos Police Department attempted a traffic stop on an SUV. The driver fled and entered the westbound lanes of U.S. 30 while traveling east.

Police said the driver continued in the wrong direction for about half a mile before crossing the median and attempting to merge into the eastbound lanes. At that point, the SUV was struck by a semi, forcing the vehicle into the median and causing it to overturn.

Emergency crews extricated the driver from the SUV. She was transported to a local hospital with “potential life-threatening injuries,” officials said. The semi driver was not seriously hurt.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage. The crash remains under investigation.
