One person injured following vehicle crash on I-95 in Virginia

VIRGINIA — A driver suffered serious injuries Tuesday night after crashing into a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Safety Service Patrol vehicle on Interstate 95 in Chesterfield County.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred just before 7:15 p.m. on Nov. 25 along I-95 North near the 58-mile marker, in the area of Woods Edge Road.

The Safety Service Patrol vehicle, operated by a contractor for VDOT, had been assisting vehicles on the left shoulder and was pulling into the left lane when it was struck by another vehicle.

The driver who hit the patrol vehicle sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The SSP driver was not injured.

All northbound lanes were closed for a period of time but have since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
