OHIO — A driver is in critical condition following a crash involving a car and a school bus Thursday morning in East Liverpool, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said troopers responded shortly before 8:30 a.m. to Ohio Route 7 south of Beaver Local High School.
Investigators said two school buses were traveling southbound on Route 7 when one bus stopped to pick up a child. The second bus behind it also slowed and applied its brakes.
According to officials, the driver of a car failed to stop in time and struck the rear school bus.
Troopers said the driver of the car became trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. The driver was transported to Mercy Health Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Authorities confirmed that no one on either school bus was injured.
Officials said the roadway was temporarily blocked but was expected to reopen shortly after crews cleared the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
