One person injured following vehicle crash in Ohio, alcohol suspected

OHIO — One person was seriously injured in an early-morning crash Saturday in Logan County that authorities say may have involved alcohol.

The crash happened around 5:25 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 130 and County Road 13. According to deputies, a 2013 Nissan Altima left the roadway and struck a utility pole, snapping it at the base.

The driver, Jackie Taylor, 30, of Bellefontaine, was able to get out of the vehicle by breaking a window and climbing out. She suffered minor injuries.

The passenger, Kylea Page, 36, of Bellefontaine, was wearing a seat belt but was thrown into the windshield on impact. Fire and EMS crews had to free her from the vehicle.

Page was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to a nearby helipad and flown to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for treatment.

Deputies at the scene suspected Taylor was under the influence of alcohol. She failed field sobriety tests and was transported by Huntsville EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital. While there, she agreed to provide a blood sample for alcohol testing. The sample was sent to the Ohio State Highway Patrol crime lab for analysis.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Tops Towing.

Taylor was cited for failure to control and operating a vehicle under the influence, based on observed impairment as a contributing factor in the crash. She is scheduled to appear in court later this week.

The investigation remains ongoing pending the results of the blood test.
