OHIO — A Lima teenager was hospitalized with suspected serious injuries following a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning.
According to the Shawnee Township Police Department, 19-year-old Shannon Smith was driving westbound on Breese Road around 7 a.m. when she reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.
Her 2013 Hyundai veered off the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned, sustaining significant damage.
The Shawnee Township Fire Department responded to the scene and transported Smith to Mercy Health–St. Rita’s Medical Center for treatment. Police cited her for failure to maintain reasonable control of her vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing.
