GEORGIA — A 3-year-old child is hospitalized after a driver under the influence crashed a car into a lake in Spalding County on Sunday, according to Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Nafeeza Samad of Dallas, Georgia, was traveling at high speed on Dundee Lake Road when she turned into a parking lot at the lake.
The vehicle struck a large boulder, which caused it to veer through the grass and plunge into the water.
The car went underwater, and while the driver climbed out and stood on top of the vehicle, the child remained trapped inside. A Spalding County deputy and firefighters arrived at the scene and rescued the child, performing CPR until a pulse was regained. The child was then airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
Samad faces several charges, including DUI, serious injury by vehicle, endangering a child under 14 while driving under the influence, reckless driving, and child safety seat violations.
