
OHIO — A man was shot Thursday afternoon during an encounter with members of the U.S. Marshals Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force in Youngstown, according to authorities.
In a press release, officials said the task force was attempting to locate a 74-year-old man who was wanted for allegedly fleeing from Poland Village police during a traffic stop. Investigators located the suspect inside a motorhome parked on a property in Youngstown.
Authorities said officers announced their presence and called out to the man. According to the release, the suspect then produced a firearm and pointed it at officers. Law enforcement personnel opened fire, striking the man.
Officers provided medical aid at the scene, and the suspect was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. His condition has not been released, and his name has not been made public.
Officials have not released information about the officer or officers involved in the shooting. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
