TENNESSEE — A 7-year-old boy was injured in an overnight shooting in South Memphis, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Officers responded around 1:30 a.m. Friday to reports of gunfire in the 2300 block of Douglass Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found the child had been struck by gunfire while sitting inside his living room. The boy was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition but was later upgraded to non-critical, police said.
Investigators said several people were inside the home at the time, playing a game when they heard multiple gunshots and took cover. Witnesses told police they did not see a suspect.
Neighbors in the area also reported hearing gunfire but were unable to provide additional information.
Police said surveillance footage from the Real Time Crime Center captured a suspect driving a black car, possibly a Ford Mustang, firing multiple shots from the driver’s side. The vehicle was last seen traveling east on Douglass Avenue before heading north on Grand Street.
The shooting remains under investigation.
