
OHIO — A man was hospitalized Monday night after being shot while walking through a school parking lot, according to a report from the Springfield Police Division.
Police were called to the area of Sunset Avenue and East John Street around 10:06 p.m. for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg.
Officers provided immediate aid, applying a tourniquet and working to stop the bleeding.
The victim told police he had been shot while walking through the parking lot of the Springfield-Clark Career Technology Center (CTC) on Selma Road.
Following a trail of blood, officers traced the scene from the initial location to the CTC property.
According to the report, the victim said he heard a loud bang while walking through the lot, then felt pain in his leg. He also mentioned seeing a truck in the parking lot at the time of the incident and said he fled the area as quickly as he could.
The man was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center for treatment.
No suspects have been identified, and no charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.
