
NORTH CAROLINA — A person is in critical condition after being shot in the head by a relative during an incident along Highway 601 in Rowan County on Tuesday night, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the scene near Sells Road around 8:30 p.m. on July 15.
Initial reports suggested the shooting may have been related to road rage, but investigators later determined the individuals involved were family members.
At the scene, deputies found two relatives—one suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. That individual was rushed to Baptist Hospital and remains in critical care. The other person was not injured and is cooperating with investigators.
Two vehicles were involved and both sustained damage, though authorities have not specified how the damage occurred.
The exact relationship between the individuals and the circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been released.
