TEXAS — Five people are in custody after a police chase that began in Ellis County early Thursday morning and ended in a crash in West Fort Worth.

According to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy spotted a vehicle shooting from the roadway near FM 875 and FM 663 in Midlothian around 3:22 a.m. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver fled, leading deputies on a pursuit.

Authorities said that during the chase, the occupants of the vehicle continued firing at deputies. The pursuit moved through multiple jurisdictions, including Grand Prairie and Arlington, where additional law enforcement agencies joined the chase. Officials said preliminary information indicates the suspects also fired at other responding officers.

Fort Worth police eventually deployed tire spikes, causing the vehicle to overturn near Camp Bowie Boulevard and bringing the pursuit to an end.

Four of the five occupants were transported to local hospitals and remain in police custody. A fifth person was not taken to a hospital and is also in custody.

No deputies or officers were injured during the incident, authorities said. The scene was cleared around 5:30 a.m., but the investigation remains ongoing.
