OHIO — A woman was hospitalized after being attacked by a dog in an alley in Bellefontaine on Monday, according to authorities.
Police said the incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Detroit Street. According to a report from the Bellefontaine Police Department, the victim called 911 after being bitten multiple times on her body.
The woman told officers she was walking her dog when two dogs attacked her. However, the dogs’ owner later disputed that claim, stating only one dog was involved.
An officer who responded to the scene reported that the victim had visible injuries, including a bandaged left hand and bleeding from her right hand and leg. She was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment and indicated she intends to press charges.
Investigators said the dogs had gotten loose, and two young boys attempted to restrain them but lost control. Authorities later contacted the dogs’ owner, who confirmed the animals belonged to his family.
Police said the boys’ mother is expected to face a criminal summons for failure to properly confine or restrain a dog under Ohio law. A court date has been set for April 14.
The investigation remains ongoing.
