PENNSYLVANIA — A juvenile is in custody and a Franklin County resident is in serious condition following a violent assault involving a stabbing and a baseball bat in Washington Township, according to the Washington Township Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 13100 block of Welty Road at about 10:47 a.m. Sunday. Police said the caller reported that his neighbor had been stabbed multiple times and struck in the head with a baseball bat. Investigators said the suspect also stole the victim’s vehicle following the attack.

According to police, the victim was able to identify the juvenile suspect and the stolen vehicle before being transported to a trauma center with serious injuries.

Authorities issued a be-on-the-lookout alert and used information from the suspect’s cellphone to locate the individual. Police said state troopers in the Bedford area located the juvenile, who attempted to flee but was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

A felony warrant was issued, and the juvenile was transported to the Franklin County Jail. Additional details about charges were not immediately released.

“Public safety is our highest priority,” Washington Township Police Chief Jason Wolfgang said. “We encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Working together, we can keep our community safe.”
