VIRGINIA — A driver sustained minor injuries Saturday afternoon after a vehicle was struck by a train in Altavista, according to the Altavista Police Department.
Officers responded around 12:21 p.m. to the railroad crossing near 1507 Main Street following reports of a collision between a Honda and a Norfolk Southern freight train.
Preliminary investigations indicate the car began crossing the tracks as the train approached, striking the rear passenger-side quarter panel of the vehicle.
Authorities said the driver’s injuries were minor, and EMS transport was not needed. No one on the train was injured, and no hazardous materials were involved.
The investigation is ongoing. Officials said updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
