INDIANA — A man was seriously injured early Wednesday when a train collided with a semitrailer in Mentone, authorities said.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office reported that emergency crews responded just before 5 a.m. to the intersection of State Road 25 and State Road 19, where the semi was fully engulfed in flames.
Preliminary investigations indicate the 60-year-old driver from Howe was attempting a left turn from SR 25 but missed the turn, causing the vehicle to go off the road and become stuck on nearby railroad tracks. An oncoming train then struck the semi.
The driver was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital with internal injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
