One person injured after being struck by vehicle in Ohio

OHIO — Bellefontaine Police are investigating a Friday afternoon collision that left a local man seriously injured.

The crash occurred shortly after noon at the intersection of North Madriver Street and East Sandusky Avenue.

According to police, a 2022 Toyota Sienna driven by 46-year-old Moriah Richter of Lima was heading north on Madriver and turning west onto East Sandusky when the vehicle struck a pedestrian in an unmarked crosswalk.

The pedestrian, identified as 79-year-old Michael Hawkey of Bellefontaine, was walking across East Sandusky Avenue at the time of the crash. He was treated at the scene and then transported by Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital with suspected serious injuries.

Richter was cited for disregarding signal indications. Police continue to investigate the incident.
