MARYLAND — A pedestrian was struck Tuesday morning on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving five vehicles, officials said.

According to Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue Services, the pedestrian was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they were called to the scene shortly after 6 a.m. for reports of a multi-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

By 6:30 a.m., all lanes on the parkway had reopened, and traffic delays were easing, according to transportation officials. Police are asking drivers to remain cautious and expect some residual delays as the investigation continues.

Elsewhere in the area, a separate crash occurred on U.S. 50 eastbound near MD-704 at Exit 8. The ramp was temporarily blocked but reopened by 7 a.m. after a tractor-trailer crash earlier in the morning. Police have not released details on how that crash occurred or whether there were any injuries.
