INDIANA — A pedestrian was critically injured early Monday after being struck by a pickup truck on the city’s near south side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).
The crash happened around 5:45 a.m. on Oct. 13 at the intersection of East Raymond and Shelby streets. Officers arrived to find a pedestrian, believed to be a man, suffering from severe injuries. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.
“The involved pickup, which originally left the scene, returned a short time later,” an IMPD spokesperson said. “The driver of the pickup is cooperating with the investigation.”
Investigators believe the pickup truck was traveling west on East Raymond Street when it struck the pedestrian.
IMPD accident investigators responded to the scene, and the driver will undergo a standard blood draw. “It is unclear at this time if impairment is a factor, pending toxicology results,” the spokesperson said.
As of 7:15 a.m., the intersection remained closed while police continued their investigation.
