ILLINOIS — A 23-year-old Chicago man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle while walking along N. Martin Luther King Drive, according to the Decatur Police Department.
Officers responded to the 3400–3600 block of the roadway around 10:20 p.m. for a reported personal injury accident.
Their preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 GMC Envoy, driven by a 69-year-old Decatur man, was heading south in the right lane when it struck the pedestrian, who was also walking southbound in the same lane.
Police said the pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol content of .167.
He was not wearing reflective clothing and was walking in the roadway instead of using a nearby sidewalk.
The driver was not injured, and there were no signs he was impaired. The incident remains under investigation, and no further details have been released.
