FLORIDA — A 5-year-old child was seriously injured Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of the Baker Sports Complex in Crestview.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred in a crowded parking lot where a truck driver was unable to see the child.
Investigators reported that the child initially moved out of the vehicle’s path but then turned back toward the area, placing him in the path of the truck. The child was knocked to the ground and his leg was run over during the incident.
Authorities say the driver stopped immediately after realizing the child had been struck.
Emergency responders treated the child for serious injuries, though additional details about the child’s condition have not yet been released.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
