
FLORIDA — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a car-versus-pedestrian crash that occurred Tuesday morning in Martin County.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported around 7:26 a.m. near the intersection of Martin Downs Boulevard and Mapp Road in Palm City. Authorities said a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment. The extent of the pedestrian’s injuries was not immediately released.
Officials advised motorists to expect traffic delays in the area while the crash was investigated.
The incident comes as the sheriff’s office increases traffic enforcement efforts in the western part of Martin County. Officials said there have been five traffic-related deaths in the county over the past two weeks. As part of the enforcement initiative, deputies are focusing on Warfield Boulevard in an effort to slow drivers and reduce unsafe driving behaviors.
The crash remains under investigation.
