FLORIDA — A 5-year-old boy was critically injured Tuesday night after being struck by a pickup truck on State Road 296, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. at the intersection of SR-296 and Valley Escondido Drive.
FHP said a 63-year-old Pensacola man was driving east in the right lane when he encountered the boy standing in the lane. The front of the truck struck the child, who was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Authorities said no charges are pending against the truck’s driver.
