One person injured after being stabbed in throat in Florida

FLORIDA — A man was stabbed in the throat Thursday afternoon at a home on Alexander Lane, leading to a foot chase and arrest, according to the Parker Police Department.

Police Chief James Baxley said officers responded to a call about a stabbing around 1:05 p.m. When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from a throat wound, though he was able to speak with police.

Authorities said the suspect fled on foot from the scene. An officer later made contact with the suspect during a search, but the man briefly escaped after a struggle. Officers located the suspect hiding in a ditch approximately 10 to 15 minutes later and took him into custody.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, Baxley said. Police said the victim and suspect were acquaintances, and the motive remains under investigation. Two witnesses were inside the home at the time of the incident.

The suspect was booked into the Bay County Jail on charges including resisting an officer with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, giving a false name to a law enforcement officer and defying a law enforcement officer. Additional charges related to the stabbing are pending.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers and local police continued searching the area for the weapon, which officials said could be anywhere between the home, Lake Drive and Highway 22A.

Police said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no threat to the public. Names of the victim and suspect are being withheld until the case is closed.
