FLORIDA — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating the death of a 4-year-old child who was found dead inside a home Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
Officers were called to a residence off Tanglewood Drive Northeast around 3:30 p.m. after a 16-year-old returned home and discovered her younger brother unresponsive, Anthony Holloway said.
Authorities said the child appeared to have been stabbed to death. The boy’s mother was also inside the home and was found with wounds on her body. She was transported to a hospital for treatment, and investigators said they plan to interview her at a later time.
Police said the child’s father was not home at the time of the incident. Investigators also located a note believed to have been left by the mother and a knife inside the residence.
Detectives were speaking with neighbors Tuesday evening and were working to obtain a search warrant. Holloway said there was no prior history of calls for service at the home.
According to police, detectives are “looking at everything” as they work to determine exactly what happened. No further information was immediately available.
