MARYLAND — Police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead in Charlotte Hall following a reported shooting in Charles County late Sunday night.
According to authorities, officers, firefighters and EMS responded around 10:40 p.m. to the area of La Plata Road and Radio Station Road in La Plata for a reported shooting involving occupants inside a vehicle.
Investigators said the suspect, the victim and a third individual were inside the vehicle when the driver allegedly shot the front-seat passenger in the head. The third person was able to escape and call 911.
Police described the suspect as a white male known to law enforcement. Authorities said he fled the area in a white 2022 Tesla with a broken passenger-side window.
Law enforcement agencies across multiple jurisdictions, including in Virginia, assisted in tracking the suspect through cell phone data and the vehicle.
Around 1 a.m., a resident in the 10000 block of Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall reported a body found in a neighbor’s yard. Officers confirmed the deceased male matched the description of the earlier shooting victim. The location is approximately 10 miles from where the shooting was initially reported.
The suspect was later taken into custody in Virginia.
Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public. The identities of those involved have not yet been released.
The investigation remains active.
