VIRGINIA — A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning in Chesterfield County, according to police.

The Chesterfield County Police Department said officers were dispatched around 9:45 a.m. on April 7 to the 4000 block of Frye Terrace for a reported disturbance involving a weapon.

According to authorities, a caller reported a man was on their property armed with a long gun, yelling and at one point approaching the front door. The caller later told police the man returned to his own residence before officers arrived.

Police said officers located the suspect at his home and identified themselves. Investigators said the man was seen standing in the doorway armed with a rifle.

“Officers identified themselves and saw the man, armed with a rifle, in the doorway of his residence. One officer fired at the suspect, who then retreated inside his residence,” police said.

Authorities said officers established a perimeter around the home and used a drone to search the residence. When officers entered, they found the man inside, where he was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Officials said the officer who fired the weapon has been placed on administrative leave.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chesterfield County Police Department or Crime Solvers.
