
OHIO — A man is dead and another is in custody following a fatal shooting Thursday night at the Sunoco gas station in the Northern Lights Shopping Center on Cleveland Avenue.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Clinton Township police officers responded to reports of gunfire just after 8 p.m.
When they arrived, they found a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Ohio State University Medical Center, where he later died.
Authorities say 24-year-old Demetrius Ransom Jr. shot the man after the victim allegedly tried to steal Ransom’s car, which had been left running and unattended in the parking lot.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office COVERT and Special Investigations units were in the area and arrested Ransom at the scene.
A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.
Ransom has been charged with murder and is being held in the Franklin County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
