TENNESSEE — A wrong-way driver was killed and six others, including an infant and five teenagers, were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Montgomery County on Friday evening, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred just before 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the intersection of Dover Road and North Liberty Church Road.

Investigators said a 2011 Honda Fit was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Dover Road as it approached the intersection, where a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, a 2020 Nissan Kicks, and a 2016 Nissan Versa were stopped at a red light. The Honda reportedly ran the light, sideswiped the Chevrolet, and then collided with both Nissans before coming to a stop.

The Honda’s driver, identified as 56-year-old David Johnson of North Carolina, was not wearing a seatbelt and died from his injuries.

THP reported that all four occupants of the Nissan Kicks — two 19-year-old women, a 16-year-old girl, and a 13-year-old boy — were injured. A 19-year-old woman and an infant girl under one year old inside the Nissan Versa were also hurt. All six were wearing seatbelts, but their current conditions have not been released.

The only person involved who was not injured was a 16-year-old Tennessee girl driving the Chevrolet, whom officials said was also properly restrained.

Authorities have not released any additional information as the investigation continues.
