ILLINOIS — One person was killed and another critically injured Thursday night after being struck by a car in Decatur, police said.
Officers responded around 9:49 p.m. to West Main Street and Taylor Avenue following reports of a pedestrian accident.
Investigators said a red Pontiac traveling westbound crossed the eastbound lane, drove onto the south sidewalk, and struck two pedestrians walking westbound.
A 38-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A 29-year-old man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police identified the driver as 36-year-old Issaih K. Flagg, whose license was suspended for multiple reasons.
Flagg was booked into the Macon County Jail on charges including aggravated DUI causing death, aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm, aggravated DUI while driving with a suspended license, and driving while license suspended. Blood tests to determine Flagg’s BAC are pending.
The Decatur Police Department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team is continuing to investigate the crash. No further information has been released.
