INDIANA — Indiana State Police and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Thursday morning on Interstate 65.
According to Indiana State Police, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-65 northbound near the 165-mile marker around 10 a.m.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2008 Hyundai Accent, traveling northbound, veered onto the west shoulder.
The driver, identified as 29-year-old Framber Monserrat of Chicago, overcorrected, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and roll over.
The vehicle came to rest on its roof.
A passenger in the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding the passenger’s identity pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office will release the name once those steps are completed.
Monserrat and a juvenile passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a Lafayette-area hospital.
During the investigation, authorities determined that Monserrat was under the influence at the time of the crash.
After being released from the hospital, Monserrat was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail and charged with:
