NORTH CAROLINA — A violent assault investigation late Thursday night led Asheville police to discover a woman stabbed to death inside a home on Warren Avenue.
Officers were first called around 10:15 p.m. to assist EMS with a severely beaten man. During their investigation, authorities identified the assault suspect as 32-year-old Douglas Michael Stroupe, who was found near the scene and taken into custody.
Further information led officers to check a nearby residence on Warren Avenue. Inside, police said they discovered signs of a burglary and found 45-year-old Jennifer Rose Gerard dead from multiple stab wounds.
Based on evidence and witness statements, Stroupe was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, and first-degree burglary. He was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility and is being held without bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
