LOUISIANA — An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old girl late Tuesday night, according to Hammond police.
Demontez Treyvon “Trey” Robinson was booked into the Hammond City Jail on one count of negligent homicide.
Police said officers responded to a shots-fired call just before midnight. When they arrived, they found a 14-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital, where she later died.
During the investigation, officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop. Police identified Robinson as the driver.
Authorities said their investigation determined that Robinson was playing with a gun when it discharged, striking the girl.
The investigation remains ongoing.
