TEXAS — Midland police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian Tuesday evening.

Officers were dispatched around 6:58 p.m. to the intersection of Midland Drive and Dengar Avenue after receiving reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian, according to the Midland Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found 67-year-old Liborio Garcia of Midland lying in the northbound lanes of Midland Drive. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

During their investigation, officers located a white Ford Escape with significant front-end damage and a shattered windshield in the parking lot of the Summer Hill Apartments. Witnesses told police they saw two people exit the vehicle and run from the scene.

Police said preliminary findings indicate Garcia was crossing Midland Drive from east to west when he was struck by the Ford Escape, which was traveling northbound in the inside lane.

Investigators later identified Jordan McLaughlin as a suspect and located him at a nearby apartment. According to police, McLaughlin admitted to driving the vehicle and leaving the scene without rendering aid.

McLaughlin was arrested and booked into the Midland County Detention Center on a charge of collision involving death. The investigation remains ongoing.
