ALABAMA — One man is dead and another is in critical condition following an ATV crash in Troy earlier this month, according to the Troy Police Department.

Police said the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on March 6 in the 2000 block of County Road 1165. Officers responded to reports that a Polaris Ranger had overturned, injuring two passengers.

Authorities said the ATV was driven by Robert Hollifield II, 44, of Smiths Station. After investigating the crash, police arrested Hollifield and initially charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Officials said Jered Heath McNeil, 41, of Taylor, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second passenger, Arthur John Lancaster, 43, of LaGrange, Georgia, was flown by LifeFlight to a hospital in Montgomery, where he remains in critical condition.

Police later upgraded Hollifield’s charges on March 9 to one count of murder and one count of first-degree assault. He was booked into the Troy City Jail and later released after posting a $125,000 bond.

The crash remains under investigation, authorities said.
