GEORGIA — A seven-month-old child was killed and multiple people were injured in a crash early Friday on Interstate 20, authorities said.

The Georgia State Patrol reported the wreck occurred around 1:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-20 in Greene County.

Troopers said a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling east in the right lane when the driver lost control of the SUV, veered off the roadway and struck a tree head-on. The vehicle then overturned.

There were six people inside the SUV, and authorities said none of them were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The infant was pronounced dead at the scene. Several other occupants suffered injuries and were transported to hospitals, though their conditions have not been released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
