VIRGINIA — One person is dead following a crash involving two tractor-trailers and an SUV on Interstate 95 in Hanover County, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities said the crash occurred before sunrise Thursday on the northbound side of I-95 near mile marker 97, just before the Doswell exit.
Officials confirmed the driver of the SUV was killed in the crash. The victim’s identity has not been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, traffic backups stretched for approximately seven miles as of 8:30 a.m.
Multiple northbound lanes were closed for at least 90 minutes as crews responded. At one point, all northbound lanes were shut down before the left lane reopened.
Officials said drivers traveling through the area toward Caroline County should expect heavy delays and consider alternate routes, including Route 1 or Route 301.
The investigation remains ongoing.
