LOUISIANA — An Albany man was killed early Tuesday morning in a crash involving a box truck and an 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 eastbound near Grosse Tete, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers identified the victim as 51-year-old Phillip Scott.
State Police said the crash occurred around 4 a.m. near the Iberville–West Baton Rouge parish line. Authorities reported that traffic had stopped in the area due to ongoing construction. “For reasons still under investigation, Scott failed to stop and rear-ended the tractor-trailer,” State Police said in a statement.
Scott, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained fatal injuries. A passenger in the box truck was also wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Following the crash, I-10 eastbound was closed between Grosse Tete and Lobdell. The roadway fully reopened by 9 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
