TEXAS — One person was killed and another was injured in a crash involving two 18-wheelers Wednesday morning in Smith County, according to authorities.
The crash occurred on Toll 49 near FM 2493, also known as Old Jacksonville Highway. Officials said the two semi trucks collided head-on.
Smith County Justice of the Peace Andy Dunklin confirmed that one person died at the scene. Authorities said the driver of the westbound 18-wheeler was killed in the crash, while the other driver sustained minor injuries.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, as officials said family members had not yet been notified.
Following the crash, a portion of Toll 49 between Old Jacksonville Highway and Highway 69 was closed. Traffic was diverted at both locations, and officials said the roadway would remain closed for several hours while crews worked the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
