OHIO — A New York man died Wednesday evening after a crash involving a pickup truck and a semi on Interstate 76 in Portage County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. near milepost 46 in Edinburg Township.
Investigators said a semi truck was disabled and parked on the right shoulder of the interstate, with its driver inside the sleeper cab. A pickup truck pulling a trailer then drove off the roadway and struck the parked semi.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 39-year-old man from Howard Beach, New York, died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his name.
The driver of the semi was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Officials said the crash caused the semi to spill laundry detergent onto the highway. Interstate 76 eastbound was temporarily closed from State Route 14 to State Route 225 while crews cleaned up the spill. The roadway has since reopened.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
