FLORIDA — One person was killed early Wednesday morning in a crash involving a semi-truck in Lake Wales, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The two-vehicle crash occurred around 3:20 a.m. on State Road 60 West at West Lake Wales Road North.
Deputies said a 2026 Freightliner semi-truck was traveling east on State Road 60 when, for unknown reasons, a 2022 Kia K5 sedan collided with the rear of the truck.
When first responders arrived at the scene, the driver of the Kia was pronounced dead. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators said the driver of the Kia was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, though the vehicle’s airbags deployed.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
