VIRGINIA — An 82-year-old man from Ferrum died Monday night following a single-vehicle crash in Franklin County, according to the Virginia State Police.
The crash happened around 9:28 p.m. on Franklin Turnpike, about one-tenth of a mile east of Byrds Mill Road.
State Police said a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 was traveling east when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
The driver, identified as William Page Thompson, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
