VIRGINIA — A 62-year-old Wakefield man died Thursday after his pickup truck struck multiple trees in a single-vehicle crash, Virginia State Police said.
Troopers responded to the scene at 9316 Birch Island Road around 1:45 p.m. on August 14. The driver, identified as Charles Lee Mixell, was the only person in the 1999 Dodge Dakota and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An initial investigation found that Mixell was traveling north on Birch Island Road when he ran off the roadway and collided with several trees.
The road was temporarily closed while crews cleared the scene, with the Virginia Department of Transportation assisting in detouring traffic.
