
TEXAS — One person was killed and another hospitalized early Friday following a wrong-way crash on Interstate 35 on San Antonio’s northeast side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Police said officers were called to the 4400 block of I-35 northbound around 4:15 a.m. for a major crash involving multiple vehicles. Investigators determined that a man believed to be between 30 and 40 years old was driving southbound in the northbound lanes when his vehicle collided head-on with a car driven by a 62-year-old man.
According to police, the wrong-way driver’s vehicle went airborne following the initial impact and then struck an 18-wheeler.
The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene, SAPD said. The 62-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
The names of those involved have not been released. San Antonio police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
