One person dead following vehicle crash in Texas

TEXAS — A 56-year-old woman was killed Friday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash into a ravine in Hudspeth County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS officials said the crash occurred shortly before noon on January 2 along U.S. Highway 62/180, near mile marker 50. The location is less than three miles west of Desert Haven.

A preliminary investigation found that the victim, identified as 56-year-old Maria Patricia Plunkett of Desert Haven, was traveling eastbound on US 62/180 in a truck when the crash occurred. DPS noted that Plunkett was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the incident.

According to authorities, the truck left the roadway and came to rest in a ravine south of the highway. Plunkett was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was transported to Legacy Mortuary Service.

The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol – Fort Hancock.
