TENNESSEE — A 63-year-old man died early Saturday morning in a crash on Interstate 40 near Highway 70 South, authorities said.
The Metro Nashville Police Department reported the crash at 2:25 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-40. Traffic was already congested due to an earlier crash being cleared.
Preliminary investigations show a Hyundai Elantra was slowing down when it was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer. The Hyundai driver, a man from Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are working to notify his family.
The westbound lanes of I-40 were closed for several hours, with traffic diverted at Exit 196. Two lanes reopened by 6:30 a.m., and all lanes were fully reopened by 8:30 a.m.
